Canada Nickel (WKN: A2P0XC) plans to supply low-CO? semi-finished steel products to Swiss Steel in the future through its subsidiary NetZero Metals.

The companies presented their plans on October 26, 2026. Three days earlier, they signed an agreement that sets out the framework for the intended collaboration. On the Canadian side, the starting point is the Crawford nickel project, which is under development, in the Timmins-Cochrane mining district in Ontario, Canada.

The Highlights

The companies cite the following key points:

Planned scope: approximately one million metric tons of semi-finished steel products per year from 2030, to which Swiss Steel is to receive exclusive access.

Technically validated initial supply concept for Swiss Steel sites in the USA, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, and France; further sites could follow.

Intended products: low-CO? ?billets? and ?blooms?, i.e., preformed pieces of steel that Swiss Steel would further process into specialty steel.

Industrial partner with an existing distribution network: According to the announcement, Swiss Steel employs approximately 7,000 people and is represented by production and sales companies in 25 countries.

The volume figure describes the targeted supply, not revenue that has already been secured. Details on prices, binding minimum purchase volumes, and contract term have not yet been published.

Why It Matters

Canada Nickel (WKN: A2P0XC) intends to establish the processing through its wholly owned subsidiary NetZero Metals. From the planned mine concentrates, a finished nickel product as well as semi-finished steel products are to be produced. For this purpose, the nickel- and chromium-bearing magnetite concentrate, an iron-rich intermediate product, is to be processed into semi-finished stainless steel and specialty steel products. The aim is low and possibly net-zero CO? emissions.

Swiss Steel CEO Frank Koch sees the possible collaboration as a path to competitive feedstock and greater flexibility in the production network. Canada Nickel CEO Mark Selby emphasizes the additional processing in Canada and the connection with European customers. Together with existing partners, the company also intends to access European financing assistance for critical raw materials.

Our Assessment:

In our view, the connection with an industrial customer is a convincing step forward for the marketing plans of Canada Nickel (WKN: A2P0XC). The preparatory work and semi-finished products for several plants indicate that the partners are pursuing concrete applications. This could result in a more robust basis for long-term sales and financing discussions.

The next step is the working out of an economically and technically viable partnership; the announcement does not state a completion date. Final delivery terms and the financing of the implementation still remain open.

Next Steps:

In the next development step: Convert the supply concept into an economically and technically viable long-term partnership.

Accompanying this: Together with the existing partners, access European support for project financing.
